Midge Ure receives lifetime achievement award

21 November 2005 - Midge Ure has been presented with a lifetime achievement award at the Tartan Clef Awards.
Band Aid co-founder and former Ultravox singer Midge Ure received the accolade at a ceremony in Glasgow.
The lifetime achievement awards are organised by the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy charity, which helps people with disabilities.
The Tartan Clef Awards go from strength to strength each year, raising an astonishing amount of money for the charity.

Midge Ure OBE

Midge Ure OBE 20 October 2005 - Live Aid co-founder Midge Ure said he felt fantastic' as he collected his OBE from the Queen on 18 October.
Midge Ure was awarded the accolade for both his music and charity work.
"It's fantastic. It's wonderful. I've had many awards in my time but nothing so official, so prestigious," he said.
The Scottish musician was accompanied at the investiture by his wife Sheridan and daughters.
Midge Ure wore a plain black kilt with matching black shirt, jacket, socks and a silver tie, to pick up his honour.
"The Queen said something about it. I can't remember what but I think it was a gracious comment rather than 'What on earth are you wearing?'"

Honorary degree for Midge Ure

Doctor of Arts Midge Ure 12 October 2005 - Musician and humanitarian Midge Ure has received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Arts from Dundee's University of Abertay and formally opened a new Student Centre on October 12th.
He said: "Having left school at the age of 15, I never expected to receive such an accolade."

Live 8 DVD

30 June 2005 - EMI and Live 8 have concluded a unique agreement whereby EMI will provide the Live 8 organisation with a major financial contribution in return for the worldwide DVD rights to its 2 July concerts.
In November, EMI expects to release locally tailored Live8 DVDs around the world.
Bob Geldof said: "I hope this will be the biggest selling DVD of all time. It deserves to be. More importantly perhaps, it should be, for it will help us achieve our goal of changing the lives of the extreme poor for the better and making our generation the one that helped end the disgrace of poverty."


OBE for Midge Ure

12 June 2005 - Mide Ure in honoured with OBE (Officer of the British Empire) for his services to music and charity, after helping Bob Geldof plan this year's LIVE 8 concerts and organise Live Aid 20 years ago.

LIVE 8 confirmed

31 May 2005 - The free LIVE 8 event will be held in London and concerts in Philadelphia, Paris, Rome and Berlin on 2 July 2005.
Unlike the original Live Aid in 1985, LIVE 8 is not a charity event, but aims to draw attention to world poverty.

LIVE 8 will also be shown live on BBC TV and radio.

Ivor Novello Award for Do They Know It's Christmas?

27 May 2005 - The single Do They Know It's Christmas?, written by : Bob Geldof and Midge Ure and performed by Band Aid 20 won the Ivor Novello Award for 'Best Selling UK Single'.


'Live Aid Remembered'

'Live Aid Remembered' is a three hour documentary for BBC2 to mark the 20th anniversary of the greatest rock concert in history: Live Aid in 1985.
Scheduled for broadcast in July 2005.


RE*LIVE, Sampled Looped and Trigger Happy CD

The RE*LIVE, Sampled Looped and Trigger Happy on tour is officially released on May 2nd on Hypertension.
There's a DVD of the concert and also a separate CD taken from a different night of the tour and featuring some different tracks.
On the CD the song 'New Europeans', which is not on the DVD, and also a new instrumental called 'Tomorrow'.
The officially released DVD is a different version to that available on www.midgeure.com with more interview footage and remixed audio.
The CD will be available in the shop of www.midgeure.com for pre-orders from Monday 25th April and the first 250 will be signed by Midge Ure himself!

There will also be a new range of merchandise to complement the release; willow polo shirts, backpacks and a solid gold Midge signature pin. These will come in a presentation box and have a signed certificate of authenticity.

The legendary Visage is back

20 April 2005 - Steve Strange formed a new band with three new members: Sandrine Gouriou (synthesiser), Steven Young (synthesiser) and Rosie Harris (bass). Old Visage songs are being remixed and updated and new tracks are being written.

Midge Ure presented with Inspirational Hero award

Band Aid founder Midge Ure was on 21 March 2005 presented with the Daily Record's inaugural Inspirational Hero award.
The entrepreneur sponsored the category at our second Our Hero awards and said Midge Ure's relentless mission to help the world's poorest nations was an inspiration.
The Inspirational Hero is a person who is an outstanding Scot who has dedicated a huge part of his life to helping others.
'This person (Midge Ure) has spent 20 years trying to raise awareness of the plight of the world's poorest nations. He has quite literally helped save the lives of thousands of children and is truly an inspiration to all of us.'
